AIPAH, year ten student Brandon Atoui has always wanted to be a dancer, and now all his dreams are coming true. Working with top LA choreographers Erica Sobol and Andye J, Brandon took to the stage at Home Nightclub in October to perform in the highly prestigious Carnival “Choreographers Ball”.
With only four days to learn and perfect the routine, Brandon and the other talented dancers chosen certainly had their work cut out for them mastering the incredible and challenging choreography of two of LA’s hottest!
“Working with Erica and Andye J was amazing. I learnt so much in the four days of rehearsals and feel honored to have been given the chance to perform their extraordinary dance pieces. It’s inspiring! And, it’s been great to be able to put into practice all the knowledge and techniques I have learnt so far at AIPAH.”
Carnival started 12 years ago in Los Angeles, California as an outlet for top choreographers to experiment and be creative. Now a worldwide success, Carnival is held in London, New York, Sydney, Tokyo and LA. Each show has a different line-up of choreographed dances including ballet, modern and jazz, martial arts, old school, hip hop and krump.
Brandon was also given the exciting honor of choreographing his own dance piece for the Kids Carnival, titled ‘It’s The Music’. Performed by eight talented junior stars, the piece expresses how without music, dance would not be the same. He has also had success with the same choreographed piece being accepted into the heats for the Fast & Fresh Dance coming up on November 16th, 2011.
Winning a trip to America earlier this year from Sourcedance Hollywood, Brandon got the opportunity to study in LA. Spending three weeks learning from top choreographers in L.A. and New York, including Britney Spears own choreographer. His opportunity to be part of Carnival sprang from this trip with his successful audition and performance just the first step in what is sure to be a thrilling ride.
AIPAH are extremely proud of Brandon and cannot wait to see where his career goes next!
