Student Spotlight on… Bethany Skinner
Year 12 student Bethany Skinner is one of APGS’s up and coming stars. With an unwavering passion and love of acting and all things performance it is easy to be caught up in her hopes and dreams.
I recently sat down with Bethany and here is a little of what I discovered about this remarkably talented young lady…
How she discovered her talent
From a very young age Bethany was an active child and her parents channeled her energy into dance and cheerleading classes. Discovering her love for performing, acting classes soon followed and her interest in pursuing the performing arts as a career began to take shape. Understanding the competitive nature of the industry, Bethany set her sights on becoming a versatile actor and was enrolled at APGS to undertake her senior high school studies at a performing arts high school where she could focus on her craft.
‘I love the feeling of being on stage; I feed off the audience’s reaction and use it to further enhance my performance!’
With goals to work on stage and the silver screen, Bethany has used her time at APGS to develop her performance skills in acting and has also widened her skill set to include dance and singing. Outside of school she also takes piano lessons and is very active in the sporting community with interests in hockey, soccer, netball and basketball.
Life at APGS
Through her studies, Bethany has gained a newfound respect for acting as an art form and is thrilled that she is able to devote so much time to perfecting her talent during her school studies.
‘APGS has helped me to expand as a performer. I love that I am exposed to more than just acting and I love collaborating with and helping the other students!’
When asked about her favourite memories of her time at APGS so far, Bethany fondly recalls her lead roles in APGS musicals and drama performance nights. ‘It’s great to be onstage with so many talented students. Playing lead roles has really given me confidence and expanded my repertoire as a performer.’ commented Bethany.
What’s next for Bethany
Upon finishing high school at the end of 2012 Bethany plans to undertake an undergraduate degree at Nida, QUT or UOW and is also on the lookout to find an agent. She has her sights firmly set on her goal and we wish her all the best. We can’t wait to see her name up in lights!
